GOOD MORNING, VORDLERS!
Most of you no doubt saw the news that yesterday's Vordle was the last—possibly forever, possibly not. This is for those of you who didn't.On Thursday, NewsGames—the Hanover-based company that makes the Vordle for Daybreak and similar games for local news organizations across the country—got a cease-and-desist letter from the New York Times. As you may know, the Times, which bought Wordle two years ago, has been taking aim at the makers of Wordle-like games. It's more than a little ironic that the Times would target a company like NewsGames, whose overarching purpose is to deepen local news consumers' engagement with local news, but there we are. The Vordle has to stop, and yesterday's was the last, at least for now.I know how harsh a blow this is for many of you, but I'd like to take a moment to step back and thank Kevin McCurdy and Bill Miles, creators of NewsGames, for all the pleasure they've brought us all. There are over 1,100 of you who get this weekend Vordle email, which is pretty wonderful. If you want to reach out to Kevin to say thanks, you'll find him at [email protected].Meanwhile, I promise I'll keep you updated if things develop or change. With deep regrets,Rob
