GOOD MORNING, UPPER VALLEY!

And welcome back to CoffeeBreak. This is the stand-in for Daybreak until Aug. 23—just a playful little diversion until the grownup version returns. Okay, these guys are crazy, and you can lose your life, but oh my gosh!  What do you do if you're into extreme sports but don't want to spend money on equipment more elaborate than shorts and the occasional costume? Cliff dive. From, like, 80 or 90 feet up. With twists and flips. It turns out Vermont's a good place for it -- all those quarries. So here's a pretty wild compilation. But diver number 3? Ouch, dude!Somehow, they seem a lot bigger when they bang into your screen at night. Sphinx moths are one of the gifts of summer -- decorative, agile fliers... and, as this pic on Reddit shows, uncannily good at looking like a running shoe. And new for CoffeeBreak readers: Bears doing un-beary things. When grizzly bears out west start getting into trouble—breaking into cars, ransacking cabins—if they're lucky they get taken in by the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, MT. Which, it turns out, doesn't just take care of grizzlies that for one reason or another can't stay in the wild; it also sets them to work testing containers to see if they're bear-proof. Coolers, bike panniers, backpacking canisters, trash dumpsters—all get sent in by manufacturers, writes Emma Walker in Outside, filled with dry dog food, fish, honey, peanut butter and the like, and then handed over to the bears.

Hmm. It's summer, the mind wanders, and we all need something to focus on... Here's

and I, for one, am going to spend some idle time worrying about their violins... and wondering when they'll come back to the Upper Valley.

See you Wednesday.
