Paddling Post Pond in Lyme, by Jeff DeWitt
Welcome to “Dear Daybreak”, a weekly Daybreak column. It features short vignettes about life in the Upper Valley: an encounter, a wry exchange, a poem or anecdote or reflection… Anything that happened in this region or relates to it and that might strike us all as interesting or funny or poignant.

Dear Daybreak:
The time has come to downsize, to sell my house and move into an apartment. Friends said, “Have a yard sale,” “Hire a whole-house cleanout company”—but I opted for the listserv, selling one piece at a time. Despite the stress of moving, it has been joyful knowing who is getting each item and why they want it. Here are just a few stories:
My bike went into a lottery for foreign students at Dartmouth and was won by a person from the Mid-East who needed it for campus transportation.
My pizza stone and paddle were sold to a neighbor, who knew someone looking for a house, which led to selling my house in one day to a delightful couple. Such serendipity.
My two Shaker reproduction chairs are now in the retiring rooms of the Enfield Shaker Museum.
My farming equipment went to a young farmer in the Upper Valley who kindly offered to help me set up gardening in my new place.
My large bed and bedding was given to a Dartmouth student who, after being caught up in the demonstration last year and suspended, lost all financial aid, and is now back completing their degree on their own money and trying to furnish an apartment at the same time.
And the list goes on and on, helping to make my transition an adventure rather than a chore.

Dear Daybreak:
This is our song, “Twilight Time In The Meadow”, which includes the view from our front porch through the seasons. The photos are Dan's, along with the song written by Faith. All of the images were taken on our property in Charlestown.
