Hartford firefighters were called out Tuesday afternoon after a concerning hiss was heard coming from a railroad tanker car that turned out to be filled with carbon dioxide on the tracks adjacent to North Main Street. Captain Jack Hedges donned self-contained breathing apparatus and climbed up onto the tanker to check the regulating valves at the top, confirming that they had not been tampered with and that the venting of the CO2 was a normal function of the tanker, especially since it was sitting in the direct sunlight. “It’s doing what it was supposed to do,” Hedges noted afterwards.
